Hackney Learning Centre: an Alternative to Private Tuition for Local Students

Learning Hive's Hackney Learning Centre is a brand new development opening in early November 2021. It will provide an alternative provision to private tuition for students in Hackney, with bespoke educational programmes delivered through drama, interactive workshops, and 1-to-1 support, focused on closing the attainment gap between disadvantaged students and their more affluent peers.

Our centre will serve as an educational hub, encouraging positive engagement in learning opportunities in English, Maths and Science, as well as drama and wellbeing sessions.

Why is the Hackney Learning Centre Opening?

After partnering with over 40 schools Nationally to bring after-school support to disadvantaged students, we understand the challenges facing our boroughs and know that educational attainment is an important topic for all of us.

Our after-school clubs have been overwhelmingly popular, as have our summer schools, so it felt like a natural progression to create our own dedicated learning hub for young people in Hackney.

Our centre will be complete with interactive learning spaces like chalk walls

Where is Learning Hive, Hackney?

Our Hackney Learning Centre is located at 150-152 Cassland road, E9 5DA, just a 5-minute walk from Victoria Park. It's an ideal location for students and parents living in Hackney or neighbouring boroughs such as Islington and Tower Hamlets, with many local transport links nearby.

How Will Hackney Learning Centre Benefit Students?

Our new learning centre will provide a dedicated location for our courses with the aim of closing the attainment gap between disadvantaged students and their more privileged peers by providing free education, support and guidance. Our programmes are designed to engage young people in positive learning opportunities that can help them develop into confident learners who appreciate what they have been given - which is why we're so excited to be opening in just a few weeks!

Our aim is for every child that joins our centre to improve academically without their parents having to pay expensive private tuition fees. Learning Hive believes in an inclusive community that can help all students achieve expected levels of attainment, regardless of socio-economic backgrounds; success should not be limited by a young person's access to resources or educational support outside of school walls.

The cool new space will feature classrooms, breakout rooms and activity walls

Students follow bespoke programmes that are designed to address their needs, tailored to support both those who could be struggling with their academic performance and those who are performing above expectations and need support and challenges to progress further.

All of our activities align directly with the National Curriculum so you can be sure that your child will be learning and developing the skills they need to succeed.

What Programmes Do You Offer at the Hackney Centre?

We'll be opening our doors to primary and secondary school students aged between 5 and 16 years old once we launch this winter term. We will offer bespoke programmes targeted at English, Maths and Science that help younger learners to develop skills, from basic writing to understanding Shakespeare and from simple maths to algebra.

Our programmes for KS1 and KS2 work towards key milestones within the Government's guidelines for national expectations, whilst our KS3 programmes embed GCSE skills and more independent learning practice.

Independent spaces will be available as well as small group classrooms

KS4 programmes complement a student's topics at their secondary school - each school may choose to study a different novel, for example, so sessions will be planned according to this.

In addition to core subjects, we've also included drama sessions that aim to improve emotional wellbeing through creative expression whilst strengthening social skills and self-confidence. One to one Mental health and wellbeing workshops will also be available at the centre.

Who Can Join?

We welcome students from Hackney and neighbouring boroughs, such as Tower Hamlets and Islington. Our programme is designed to engage all learners in positive learning opportunities that help them develop into confident learners with the necessary skills they need for not only academic success but future life too.

We're transforming the former Gym Group location!

There is no shortage of support or funding available at Learning Hive's Hackney Learning Centre, so we're currently working hard to ensure we have a diverse range of activities on offer at our hub, alongside our dedicated on-site after-school clubs which will continue to run until late afternoon every day!

We're incredibly excited to be working with such a fantastic borough and we can't wait for our Hackney Learning Centre to open its doors. Are you as eager as us? Come along on the opening day in November 2021!

How Much Does it Cost to Join the Hackney Centre?

For eligible parents, our after school childcare sessions are completely free of charge. As a rough guide, if you're in receipt of Universal Credit, Student Finance or HMRC Working Tax Credit, you will most likely qualify for funded places on our programmes.

Where parents don't qualify for l funding, our charity and corporate partners can  contribute to our programmes, enabling us to offer heavily subsidised places at just £10 per hour.
